Open calculator →Choose the right measurements
Use two known measurements for rectangles; one known measurement for squares and circles; base and height, three sides, or two sides and an included angle for triangles; and a side count plus one measurement for regular polygons.
All lengths in a calculation must use the same unit. Area is measured in square units, while perimeter is measured in ordinary length units. For compound shapes, calculate each component separately and add or subtract areas as appropriate.
Area units change by the square of the length factor
One metre is 100 centimetres, so one square metre is 10,000 square centimetres. Convert every input length to the selected unit before calculating. These tools measure ideal shapes; cutting allowances, uneven boundaries and measurement uncertainty require separate judgement.
Frequently asked questions
Do the tools calculate area or volume?
These tools calculate measurements of flat shapes. Volume requires an additional dimension or a different formula.
Does changing the unit convert my input?
No. The selector relabels the numbers, so convert measurements yourself.
Why is one square metre 10,000 square centimetres?
Each of the two length dimensions gains a factor of 100, giving 100 × 100.
Can I calculate an irregular floor?
Split it into suitable shapes, add their areas and subtract holes without counting overlaps twice.
Does the result include material waste?
No. Area is the geometric surface measurement; purchase allowances are separate.
