A few things to know
Enter coefficients rather than unrestricted equation text. Include a zero when a term is missing, and keep variable order consistent across a system. Fractions and decimals are supported. Each solver includes examples, working and a check of its results.
Systems use exact fractions. Polynomial roots are numerical approximations and are checked for convergence and residual error. These tools solve algebraic equations and linear inequalities; they do not solve trigonometric, logarithmic or differential equations.
Simplify the problem before choosing a solver
Expand brackets and collect like terms before entering coefficients. Preserve zero coefficients for missing powers or variables. The number of solutions depends on the equation: a system can be inconsistent, while a polynomial can have repeated or complex roots.
Frequently asked questions
How do I enter a missing term?
Enter zero in its coefficient position so the remaining powers or variables stay aligned.
Can the polynomial tool solve every degree?
It accepts degree one through six. Higher-degree or non-polynomial equations need another method.
Why might an equation have no solution?
Its conditions may contradict each other, as in x + 1 = x + 2.
What does a complex root mean?
It is a solution involving i, where i² = −1, and is not a real x-axis intercept.
